Salentein Barrel Selection 2018, Valle de Uco, Mendoza, Argentina
A 100% Malbec, from grapes from Salentein’s own vineyards located in the El Oasis estate.
Formerly known as Salentein Reserve*, it is intense and complex with outstanding aromas of red fruits, blackberries, as well as delicate floral notes. It is fruity and fresh with good intensity, and a lingering finish. A full bodied wine without being heavy. A really good example of Mendoza Malbec.
*Salentein Reserve – Due to EU restrictions on the use of ‘Reserva, Gran Reserva etc’ Salentein changed the name to Barrel Selection. In EU for example, a Rioja Reserva must age for a minimum of three years, with at least one of those in oak, and the rest in the bottle. As Salentein vary this slightly to maintain the style and freshness of the wine whatever the vintage, they moved to ‘Barrel Selection’ as their name of choice.
The same rules will shortly be applied to other countries (Chile etc) so you’ll see less Reserva wines from outside EU in future.
