Cotes du Rhone 2014 Dom. de la Charbonniere, Rhone, France
Medium red robe, clearly a mainly Grenache wine here. The nose has a softly spiced aroma of red berry fruit and herbs present. The palate is mild, with a quiet display of strawberry fruit and white pepper, spicing along its sides. There is a little rocky breeze in the tannins.
Robert Parker says ‘In addition to the solid Châteauneuf du Papes, this estate turned out a superb 2014 Côtes du Rhône. Medium-bodied, sweetly fruited and elegant, it has lots of strawberry and plum fruit, no hard edges and a clean, nicely focused finish…… A terrific estate, Domaine de la Charbonnière is run with considerable passion by the Maret family, with the young Veronique Maret taking over the winemaking reins for the past decade’.
